The Helios assassin would make me shit my pants they have a mask or head that looks like pyramid head's and a small floating cube that screams the Lament Configuration, from Hell-raiser,and they are also a naked women I'am so dead.
Not even those who hire them know quite exactly -what- are they. The concept is that as Smugglers get despaired they hire ever more dangerous criminals from further and further away, until they ask for help in the most obscure corners of the galaxy. The Helios Assassin is the most exotic killer imaginable. They look human, but the cannon on her arm is definitively Verunas technology. They might aswell be Cauldron Born androids, but they rarelly look that human. They might be bioengineered by the Acaean imitating human shape... No one is quite sure. I get it now. Maybe what irks me is that usually the faction you picture is directly represented by the "units" in your deviation, while here you could title it "Pirate Smuggler-hired miscellaneous mercenaries" and it would make more sense.
I do, and I thought the same while doing it, but these factions actually started as individual characters and many still have non-combative inclinations. This also happens with the missionaries. The missionaries too are just religious scholars, but for them to be able to fend for themselves I had to assign them force-field priestess and sacred armed guards and so on.
It makes sense. I suppose even if every faction was made of non-combative characters and their armed underlings, such forces could still have their own strong themes

I don't know if you get my point.
